The Pines Resort: Your Lakefront Retreat just 17 Miles from Yosemite

The Pines Resort is a beautiful lakefront resort on the shores of Bass Lake in California. Visitors can expect numerous amenities, including fantastic mountain views and views of the lake!

    The Pines Resort

The Pines Resort is the only lakeside resort in the Yosemite Area, located 17 miles from the south gate of Yosemite National Park. The closest attraction within Yosemite is the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, the largest Sequoia grove in Yosemite.

You can also drive into Yosemite Valley to see epic views of Half Dome, El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, and more.

Of course, there's plenty to do at the Pines Resort! You can spend the day relaxing by the pool, swimming, spending time on the lake, or enjoying a nice meal at one of its restaurants.

We found out that the Bass Lake area was used to film the 1988 movie The Great Outdoors with Dan Akroyd and John Candy. As you explore Bass Lake, you will recognize many of the scenes in the film. They even have a copy at registration that you can rent and watch in your suite.

Our first visit was in January, and the lake (actually a reservoir) was drawn down, but it did not stop us from enjoying the views on our deck and having a nice glass of wine next to a warm fire in the fireplace while watching a movie at night. Don't even get me started with the Jacuzzi tub in the room! This was the perfect way to warm up after spending the day outside.

The Pines Market next to registration is a small market with several groceries, beer/wine, and 3-hour presto logs for sale, which were perfect for enjoying the fireplace in the suite.

Accomodations: Chalets, Lakeside Suites, Canins & Homes

The Pines Resort has several lodging options to choose from.

    • Chalets
    • Lakeside Suites
    • Large Cabins
    • Rental Homes.
Chalets at The Pines Resort in Bass Lake California

Chalets (two-story mountain duplex cabins) are perfect for groups of 2-6 that feature the comforts of home, including a fully equipped kitchen and a semi-private deck.

Lakeside Suites are split-level suites with stunning views of Bass Lake! They are suitable for 2-4 guests and have several amenities for a relaxing stay.

Large Cabins come fully furnished and are suitable for large gatherings such as family reunions or corporate retreats.

Rental Homes at Bass Lake can accommodate up to 14 guests and offer lake views, luxurious amenities, and lake access.

I have stayed in the Lakeside Suites and thoroughly enjoyed our room, which looked out over Bass Lake and had a great view of the marina and surrounding area.

The lakefront suites are split-level with the bathroom and bedroom when you walk in the front door, and then there are three stairs down to a sitting area with a couch, writing desk, and wood-burning stove.

The bathroom includes a giant soaking tub that could probably fit two people. A shower and toilet are in a separate room. Near the giant tub are two sinks and a large vanity mirror.

There is no closet in the room but a wardrobe cabinet with shelves and a small closet area for hanging clothes. The bed was comfortable enough that I slept past my alarm one morning because I kept pressing the snooze button.

Our favorite part of the room was the wood-burning fireplace and view over the lake. We started and finished almost every day with a fire and enjoying the lake view.

The bonus of getting up before the alarm was watching the sunrise while soaking in the fire's atmosphere. We could buy presto-logs from the front desk and at the nearby Pines Market.
