Joshua Tree National Park Tours
Joshua Tree is one of those places that does not fit neatly into any category, and that is exactly what makes it special. The landscape looks like it was designed by someone who had never seen a desert before and just went for it.
Twisted trees that look like they are waving at you, boulders the size of houses stacked on top of each other like a giant left them there, and skies so clear at night the Milky Way feels close enough to touch.
The towns around the park lean into the strangeness in the best possible way, with art installations in the desert, sound baths under the stars, and a general sense that the normal rules do not apply out here.
Tammilee and I always leave Joshua Tree feeling like we saw something we cannot quite explain, which is probably why we keep going back.
What I have also learned over years of visiting parks like this one is that having the right experience matters as much as showing up.
Joshua Tree is enormous at nearly 800,000 acres, and without a guide or a solid plan you can spend your whole visit at the same two roadside pullouts that everyone else stops at.
The tours on this list get you past that and into the real park. Here are nine worth booking.

Tips for Visiting Joshua Tree National Park
Joshua Tree has two main entrances, the West Entrance near the town of Joshua Tree and the North Entrance near Twentynine Palms. Most tour operators depart from Palm Springs or the Yucca Valley area, so plan your accommodation accordingly if you are joining a guided experience.
The park has no food service and limited cell coverage once you are inside the boundary. If you are taking the audio driving tour, download it before you enter. Bring more water than you think you need, especially in summer when temperatures regularly exceed 100 degrees. The park's visitor centers are a great first stop for maps, ranger recommendations, and passport stamps.
Peak season runs October through May, with spring wildflower season in March and April being the most popular and crowded time to visit. Summer brings extreme heat but dramatically fewer crowds.
