    Loft Mountain Campground - Shenandoah National Park

    Loft Mountain Campground in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia is located in the southern portion of the park on Big Flat Mountain. This front country campground is the largest campground in Shenandoah.

    Loft Mountain Campground offers fantastic front country camping in Shenandoah NP. The campground has lots of pull through sites making it easy to stay in an RV. 

    There is a ton of trees and shade. Make sure to pack bug spray! 

    It is only 150 feet to the Appalachian Trail from the campground.

    Location in the park:  atop Big Flat Mountain in the southern part of Shenandoah National Park

    Campsite Cost: $15

    Senior/Access Camping Fee: Holders of Interagency Senior and Access passes are eligible for a 50% discount on their camping fee. 

    Park Entrance Fees: $30 for a 7 day vehicle pass

    $80.00 - For the America the Beautiful/National Park Pass. The pass covers entrance fees to all US National Park Sites and over 2,000 Federal Recreation Fee Sites for an entire year and covers everyone in the car for per-vehicle sites and up to 4 adults for per-person sites.

    Accessible Sites: Two accessible sites are available at Loft Mountain Campground. Accessible shower and laundry facilities are also available.

    Pets Allowed: Yes, Pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times.

    Dump Station: There is a dump station a ¼ mile from the campground.

    Flush Toilets: Yes

    Payphone: Unknown

    Is wifi available? No

    Is cellular Phone Service Available? We had hit and miss service with T-Mobile

    Is camp host available on site? Yes

    Is firewood available for purchase? To help slow the spread of the emerald ash borer, visitors must only use USDA-certified firewood (signified by the USDA stamp on packaging), which can be purchased in the Park.

    RV Camping 

    Loft Mountain Campground features deep back-in sites which can handle most RVs and a tow vehicle. 

    Generators:  Generators may be used from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

    From October 15 through the end of the season, generator hours are extended to 9 p.m. for the purpose of generating heat.

    Generator use is prohibited in sites designated as “generator-free” and in group sites.

    How to get to Campground

    Loft Mountain is located between the Rockfish Gap entrance station (Waynesboro, I-64) at the southern end of the Park, and the Swift Run Gap entrance station (Elkton, US 33).
     
    From Richmond, Virginia (via Rockfish Gap): travel west on Interstate 64 for approximately 87 miles, then take exit 99 and follow signs to Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. Once on Skyline Drive, head north approximately 25 miles to mile 79.5, where you will arrive at Loft Mountain Campground.
