Bonita Canyon Campground - Chiricahua National Monument

Bonita Canyon Campground offers the opportunity to camp in Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona. The campground is a normal front country campground but you will want to be prepared for the heat and sun. It can get HOT in Chiricahua NM!

Campsite Cost: $20 

Senior/Access Camping Fee: $10 

Reservations: Yes, Reservations are made online 24 hours a day at www.recreation.gov or over the phone at 1-877-444-6777.

Accessible Sites: Site #8 is designed for people with disabilities, but open to anyone for one night if it is the last available site. The electricity is for medical use only.

How Far Ahead can you make a reservation? Individual sites at this campground operate on a 6-month rolling basis

First Come, First Served? Maybe, if sites are available you can check with the visitor center to stay for 1 night and then see if other sites open.

Dump Station: A gray water dump station is located near the restrooms. There are NO black water dump stations in the Monument. The closest dump stations are in Willcox.

Payphone: Yes

Is wifi available? No

Is cellular Phone Service Available? No

Is camp host available on site? Not while we were in the campground, there is a ranger residence in the campground

Is firewood available for purchase? No

Amenities at each campsite: 

Fire pit in the site? There are BBQ Brassieres 

Picnic Table in the site? Yes

Potable Water? Yes

 

RV Camping at Bonita Canyon Campground

RV Length: Maximum RV/motorhome or trailer length is 29 feet, actual measurements. (Note: Vehicles longer than 24 feet are not allowed past the campground on Bonita Canyon Drive)

How to get to Bonita Canyon Campground

Chiricahua National Monument is 45 minutes southeast of Willcox and 2 hours southeast of Tucson, AZ.

From I-10 east 1. Take exit 336 toward Willcox for 4 miles. 2. Turn left onto Arizona 186 E (E Maley Street) for 31 miles. 3. Turn left onto Arizona 181 E for 4 miles. 4. Veer left onto E Bonita Canyon Road and into Chiricahua National Monument. The campground is 2.5 miles ahead on your left.

From I-10 west 1. Take exit 344 toward Willcox. 2. Continue on N Haskell Ave for 5 miles. 3. Turn right onto Arizona 186 E (E Maley Street) for 31 miles. 3. Turn left onto Arizona 181 E for 4 miles. 4. Veer left onto E Bonita Canyon Road and into Chiricahua National Monument. The campground is 2.5 miles ahead on your left.

Important Dates for Campground

During monsoon season, July 6 to September 30, some campsites are closed (pdf) due to the risk of flooding.

Campground Regulations

The maximum number of people in a campsite: 8

The number of cars per campsite: 2

Checkout time: 11 am

Quiet Hours: 8 pm to 8 am 

Campsite stay is limited to fourteen consecutive days.

Hammocks, solar showers, and clotheslines are prohibited.
