    Quartz Creek Campground

Quartz Creek Campground is the smallest campground in Glacier National Park, tucked into a forested stretch of the North Fork area on the west side of the park, north of Polebridge, Montana.

With only seven sites nestled among the trees, this is about as quiet and uncrowded as it gets in Glacier. The campground sits along Quartz Creek, and sites 4 and 5 are right on the water, making them the ones to grab if you can.

The forest surrounds the sites and provides good shade, though views are limited by the tree cover. This is a true primitive campground, meaning you are packing in your water, packing out your trash, and keeping things simple.

There is a vault toilet and a central bear box on site, and that is about it for amenities. Getting here is part of the adventure.

    Quartz Creek Campground Sign

The campground is accessed by the Inside North Fork Road, a rough, dusty, dirt road full of blind curves and very few pullouts with a maximum speed of 20 mph. RVs and truck and trailer combinations are not recommended on this road. It is best suited for passenger vehicles, trucks, and camper vans that can handle a bumpy ride.

This is active bear country, so keep your bear spray on you at all times, store all food and scented items in the bear box, and stay aware of your surroundings.

If your goal is to get away from the crowds and feel like you actually have the park to yourself, Quartz Creek is the place to do it.

Alternative Lodging Options if Quartz Creek Campground is Fully Booked

    Glacier campgrounds & Lodges
oftentimes fills up months in advance, especially in July and August. Below is a couple lodges near the Avalanche Campground as a backup option.

⭐️ 4.6 of 5 Stars - Lake McDonald Lodge - Click here for Rates and Availability.

Lake McDonald Lodge is one of the Classic lodges in the national park service with a lodge feel. It has epic views of Lake McDonald and a great spot to go hiking, driving the Going to the Sun Road, and taking a boat tour of the lake. THey have several amenities, a gift store, lounge, and a restaurant.

⭐️ 4.8 of 5 Stars - Village Inn at Apgar - Click here for Rates and Availability.

This is one of my favorite lodges in Glacier and is located in Apgar Village. The lodge has several amenities and some come with a full kitchen. I love the 70's motor Inn retro vibe, but what makes me keep rebooking this lodge is sitting back in an Adirondack chair located on your back porch with epic views of Lake McDonald. It's the chef's kiss!

⭐️ 4.4 of 5 Stars - Belton Chalet - Click here for Rates and Availability.

Step back in time to an era of elegance and culinary prowess at the Historic Belton Chalet. Built in 1910 as the first of the Great Northern Railroad's iconic lodges, the Belton Chalet has served as the origional gateway to Glacier National Park for over a century, offering the same and unforgettable guest experience today, as it did when it first opened its doors. Now renowned for its world-class cuisine featuring locally-sources ingredients and an array of local beer and spirits, the chalet's restaurant and tap house provide a warm, welcoming environmentwhere the way it was is truly the way it still is. +
