Park Ranger John Pro Tip
Did you know that the Ahwahnee Hotel was called the Majestic Yosemite Hotel at one point? The Wawona Hotel was formerly called the Big Trees Lodge, and Curry Village was called Half Dome Village.
In 2016, there was a legal dispute between the US Government, which owns the properties, and the outgoing concessionaire, who, at the time, claimed rights to the trademarked names Ahwahnee Hotel, Curry Village, and Wawona Hotel. The names were restored in 2019 as part of a 2019 lawsuit settlement.
During the time of the lawsuit (2016-2019), the names of these areas of the park were temporarily changed.
